Sea Shepherd Announces Operation Blue Rage On May 1 st , 2010, Sea Shepherd’s flag ship Steve Irwin will depart from New York City and head towards the Mediterranean where it will commence Sea Shepherd’s 2010 Tuna Defense Campaign: Operation Blue Rage.  The campaign aims to stop a variety of criminal activities leading to the extinction of bluefin tuna. Bluefin tuna currently face illegal poaching and extreme overfishing, and populations have fallen by at least 85% since the industrial fishing era began.

Bluefin Tuna Ban Fails, Sea Shepherd Steps Up The United Nations has failed to agree on listing Bluefin Tuna at the recent meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna [CITES]. The decision occurred after Japan, Canada and many poor nations opposed the measure. Stocks of bluefin tuna have fallen by at least 85% since the industrial fishing era began

Sea Shepherd Announces Mediterranean Campaign for the Bluefin Tuna The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will not be getting much rest after the Japanese whaling season is ended following Operation Waltzing Matilda . Both Sea Shepherd ships, the Steve Irwin and the Bob Barker, will head for the Mediterranean from the Southern Ocean. The objective will be to intercept and oppose the illegal operations of Bluefin tuna poachers.
