Stunned, Captain Paul Watson decides to increase his speed to stay right behind the whaling ship and block any other whales from being loaded.  However, they are forced to fall back slightly in order to refuel the helicopter out of the range of the Japanese water cannons and during this time another Harpoon Ship rushes in and quickly another whale is hauled up the slipway to be processed.  Although the crew tries to retaliate by throwing bottles of butyric acid, their actions aren’t enough to keep the whalers from processing their catch.

Soon afterwards, helicopter pilot Chris Aultman notices two whales attempting to escape from the Japense whalers.  Even with Chris’s words of encouragement, there will be no escape for one of the whales who is struck with an explosive tipped harpoon.  Immediately and violently the animal dives as deep as possible in an attempt to escape but the efforts are in vain.  Blood loss and suffocation soon take over and as the ships pulls up alongside the whale a rifle is used to finish the killing.  Shot after shot is fired until the whale if lifeless at which point it is tied up to the side and hauled over to the processing ship.  All the  horrified crew of the Steve Irwin can do is watch as they are too far away to intercept.
