Seal Savers Sentenced for “Egregious Crime” of Seeing a Seal Slain George Orwell Would Understand The final verdict was delivered today in the Canadian government’s case against Sea Shepherd Captain Alex Cornelissen of the Netherlands and 1st Officer Peter Hammarstedt of Sweden. Both men were denied the right to attend their own trial in April 2009 because they had been deported and were not allowed to return to Canada to appear in their defense. Despite this, the Court in Nova Scotia proceeded with the trial, hearing only the testimony of the Crown Prosecutor.
